Alpha-Pack Ethiopia is a student-led startup transforming agricultural waste into bio-packaging. We are currently in the laboratory testing phase, refining our 70:30 Enset‑paper composite.
In our lab at Wondo Genet College of Forestry, we have successfully validated a 70:30 ratio of Enset fiber to waste paper, creating a sheet with promising structural integrity. This breakthrough proves that local agricultural residues can be upcycled into a sustainable packaging material.
We are currently in the testing phase, focusing on two critical challenges: achieving consistent tensile strength and developing reliable, non-toxic waterproofing. These are our next research priorities before any market scale-up.
This is an Ethiopian solution for Ethiopian problems — built from the ground up, in the lab.
"We are still in the lab, but our vision is clear: to engineer a packaging material that is as kind to the earth as it is functional. Transparency and persistence guide every experiment."
Currently in lab‑scale testing — no commercial production yet.
Fine‑tuning the 70:30 Enset‑paper blend to achieve uniform strength and processability. We are running repeated trials to ensure consistency.
Testing natural, biodegradable coatings that repel moisture without compromising compostability. This is a key focus of our current lab work.
Measuring tensile strength, durability, and degradation rates under controlled conditions. Data from these tests will guide future scale‑up.
We are in the lab, but we can't do it alone. Your support—whether financial, technical, or strategic—can accelerate our path to a plastic-free Ethiopia.
Grants, donations, or sponsorship to fund lab equipment, materials, and testing.
Collaboration with material scientists, engineers, or waterproofing specialists.
Organizations interested in pilot testing or co-developing applications.
Access to lab equipment, raw materials, or workspace.
See the potential impact if our material replaces plastic — once we scale.
We are actively seeking partners and supporters to help advance our research. Please let us know how you'd like to contribute.
